Keystone Shaped Wire

Keystone shaped wire is one of the most common special-shaped wires used in spring manufacturing because it counters the deformation caused during the coiling process, resulting in a much more uniform spring, ID and OD.

The keystone shape offers greater resistance to buckling when compressed, so springs made from it can better withstand heavy loads without bending and losing their shape.

Springs made from keystone shaped wire offer several advantages over other types of springs. Their shape allows them to absorb shock more efficiently, making them ideal for applications where vibrations or impacts are likely to occur.

Additionally, their unique shape allows them to apply more precise forces over small distances while maintaining their shape and strength. This is why they’re often used in various types of actuators, as push-pull or linear devices.

Our keystone shaped wire is produced in all alloys and offered in these sizes:

  • From .010” x .020” to .120” x .170”

Note: Produced to customer specifications. Has two parallel sides and two non-parallel sides.

Industries Served

Keystone shaped wire is most widely used by spring manufacturers, and these springs are used throughout all industries.

Because keystone shaped wire can have a higher tensile strength than most other wire shapes. This makes it ideal for applications in industries where a smaller footprint is needed, such as robotics and medical instruments.
